Do you know how to sail a boat? Do you go out on the lake or ocean sometimes to go sailing, fishing, or water skiing? It takes a lot of skill to do those things well in our world. It takes even more skill to do those things in DarkCorner Land. It also takes courage and perhaps you need to be kind of crazy as well. It takes that times 100 and strong determination to make “The Run.”
One thing that’s unusual about DarkCorner Land is the nature of the lakes and rivers. Some are more calm than others, but they all constantly have waves and currents that can be really strong. The waves and currents can change constantly. They come in from various directions and crash at random times. In the kingdoms of Danacy and Daraves the skill in driving a ship is incredibly important. Check the DARKCORNER LAND page to see where these countries are on the map. They’re located far up north where they have cold winters, but they aren’t in the super cold region. There’s a vast lake that separates the two kingdoms. This lake has crazy storms and massive waves for most of the year, except for one week in early December.
During the winter they can’t travel long distances across land. They need a lot of important minerals, food, drinks, supplies, and medicines. It’s a critically important trade they need for the winter and they only get one chance to make it happen. There’s one week in early December where they can drive the ship from the City of Izemenny in Daraves to the City of Luverias in Danacy. The lake is still dangerous with rough storms and massive waves. The ship captain has to be really smart about how to read the signs in the sky to figure out how to navigate through the crazy storms. He has to get there before that week’s up or they will drown for sure when the great storm settles over the entire lake.
Jake Devrey has been the captain of this ship for the last twenty five years. The coolest thing he does is even when he sleeps, he sleeps on the very bottom deck on the floor. He can feel changes in the currents that wake him up to alert him he needs to get back to the top and direct the ship through more rough storms. He has made it every time.
