HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM CASHES DADE PART 1

JOURNALS OF CADE MAYSON

“The clock is ticking, they wait for their time to arrive where they lean

The dark ghosts are singing, their desperate hope…

When the aliens invaded our kingdoms, they took power over our school. Now all of us students have rankings. Their standards are really high. Their tests…don’t get me started on those. I’m one of the BlackStar Students, the lowest ranking, meaning we’re failing. They watch us in class you know. I guess you don’t know that’s why I’m telling you. Me and my friend Blake got in trouble yesterday. It was during a math lesson that was well into the THIRD hour. Let’s have a moment of silence for that. Aaaaannndddd, okay, moment’s over. We tried staying still but we were so bored, so we played Crazy Catch. For those of you who don’t know, it’s a game where you throw a marble as hard as you can and the other kid tries to catch it. You get points for making him drop it and the crazier the catch the more points you get, you know, the one who catches it. Catching on? Sorry. Anyway, Blake threw it so high I had to jump up from my desk, I caught it right between my two fingers, then I had to kind of roll and spring back up and quickly dive back to my chair. Somehow they saw me. We had after school detention for a week cleaning the halls and dishes, way too many dishes.

One night me and Blake went exploring in the hills to the west of our City, Dayces Cameron. We found dark towers the aliens were building. People say they are building them for ghosts. We see bizarre lights in the windows sometimes. It was a cold night. Bright red clouds were rushing across the sky in three directions. We stayed low, in the shadows, so we wouldn’t be seen. That’s when we heard it, the singing, ghostly singing. They sang this sad, haunting song, the melody going up, then down, then up again, then down, over and over kind of bouncing. As we got closer we heard this booming in a slow rhythm with the singing, this low boom, one after another, really slow. We saw a really bright greenish-gold light mysteriously lighting part of the City, but the rest of the towers were under the darkest shadows I’ve ever seen. We got closer and we heard someone groaning, really loud, just on and on and on. The song began to fill up the entire city, echoing between every tower in the still dead shine. The slow booms kept going with the one voice groaning. He sounded incredibly sad. Finally we understood some of what they were singing. They kept singing the same two lines over and over again:

The clock is ticking, they wait for their time to arrive where they lean

The dark ghosts are singing, their desperate hope…

Then we saw a tall bluff closer to the towers, so of course we climbed up. Blake scrambled up, but I got a running start and shot right up those rocks in only three jumps! That’s when we saw them, their faces, staring out with sad, empty gazes…directly at us.”

Check out what happens next on the next post. What is the ghosts’ message? Can you figure out what the rest of the second line is? Leave your guesses in the comment section below.
